**Notes about Backing Tracks

Hornsea Music Festival does not encourage the use of CD backing tracks for various reasons. We feel it does not engender the skills of true musicianship in playing together with other musicians, neither does it allow individual artists freedom of interpretation or changes in tempo. Performers are almost put into a straight-jacket. Also, there can be problems with audio equipment that can interfere with the smooth running of the Festival. Even so we do acknowledge that for some soloists it is very hard to find accompanists and at times pre-recorded backing tracks are their only option. Rather than penalise these people therefore, this year, we are allowing backing tracks to be used in a limited number of classes. 2018 will be an extended trial period and the policy will be reviewed by the committee to decide how we should develop in the future.
We do emphasise that, whenever possible, live accompaniment should be used.
